The Challenge
Granville is a historic town tucked into the hills of upstate New York, known for its slate valley roots and scenic surroundings. In recent years, the town received grant funding to help revitalize its economy through outdoor recreation and tourism. While the region offers a rich mix of hiking, biking, and local charm, it lacked the digital infrastructure and cohesive identity needed to share that story with potential visitors. Without a clear brand or centralized online presence, it was difficult for Granville to highlight its offerings or stand out among other rural destinations in the Northeast.
My Role and Approach
My role included developing a full brand identity—logo, color palette, typography, and tone of voice—along with detailed brand guidelines to ensure consistency across platforms. I designed and built the town’s website using Squarespace, creating the visual layout and editing provided copy to fit the structure and flow of a user-friendly site. Throughout the process, I worked closely with the project committee, attending meetings in Granville, conducting research into how similar towns were positioning themselves online, and gathering feedback at every stage to ensure the work remained rooted in community goals. The project culminated in a launch event where I presented the new site to residents, business owners, and stakeholders—celebrating the first step in a larger effort to put Granville on the map.
